As the book jacket says, it is based on the wild crimes and cover-up and downfall of a brazen crook. It’s all about former governor of Maryland and Vice-President Spiro Agnew. I certainly remember this time in history. Watergate was on the news every night. I listened and was aware of what was happening, but I confess not paying that much attention to news about the vice president because I had just delivered my daughter in January 1973. I was focused on diapers and how to get some sleep.
Although I knew how the story ended, the book was a page-turner for me. I just didn’t realize how much corruption was happening with Agnew and others. Agnew’s story has been mostly forgotten because it was overshadowed by what was happening with President Nixon and the White House.
The book, with meticulous reporting and good storytelling, details Agnew’s days as governor through his days in the White House. The book delves into the investigation that exposes Agnew’s crimes and attempts at a cover-up.
Only about 300 pages, this book was a quick two-day read. I recommend it.
