“The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America’s Shining Women,” nonfiction by Kate Moore, is the story of young women who worked in radium-dial factories and eventually suffered gruesomely from the radiation. The book started off slowly but picked up with Moore’s painstaking research and an uncanny ability to make these dying young women come alive.
